Circumstance
Rescued as an infant and lived at Ape Action Africa’s Mefou Primate Sanctuary for 20+ years. At Mefou, she managed to escape every enclosure Mefou introduced her to, so they sadly had to keep her inside for 10 years. In 2023, Rachel was transferred to SYCR and successfully integrated into one of our groups with a high-security forested enclosure.
Traits
Rachel is a strong, independent woman. She’s very socially smart and an incredible problem solver – she’s the smartest chimp our staff has ever known. She has amazing leadership skills and stands up to the boys and never backs down. She is fiercely loyal to her best friend Emma, who came with her from Mefou.
