Cindy
Est. Birth February 2001
In August 2001, Cindy was rescued from a truck-driver, who hoped to sell her in the city. With a severe respiratory infection and diarrhea, Cindy required intensive medical care at Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center.
For three years, Cindy lived with a group of juveniles that included her good friends Alice, Leilah and Hope. They learned and grew together under the watchful supervision of human caregivers, until in 2004, they were integrated with Jacky’s group of adult and older juvenile chimpanzees in a 20-acre enclosure.
Today, Cindy is not high-ranking, but she enjoys many friends in the social group of 19 and seems happy.
