Tic
Tic
Est. Birth November 2002
Tic is one of several chimpanzees at Sanaga-Yong Center who was kept as a “pet” by misguided people who cared for him. He was rescued in February 2002 from an urban parking lot where the “cute” baby clothes he was wearing were amusing passersby.
Living with a human family left him confused and preferring the company of humans to that of chimpanzees. But with time and with help from other orphans, especially Mintak and Johnny, Tic learned the joys of laughing, playing and sharing affection with other chimpanzees.
Today, Tic is a sweet adult male in the group of twelve that is led by Mintak. Within their enclosure complex, which includes 7.5 acres of forest, he and Mintak remain good friends. Tic enjoys other chimpanzees in his group as well, but he still enjoys interactions with his caregivers, and their support is more important to him than it is to most rescued chimpanzees at Sanaga-Yong.
